Your Death Poem by Chatem Mercedes

Your Death

You're not the same now, you are different.

something happened to you since I seen you last.

you seem delicate yet more calloused.

your stories are less boisterous and you speak carefully now.

the air of confidence that once surrounded you is now evaporated.

where did it go?

where did you go?

you could talk me to the edge of the world, but now i'm not sure.

you used to tell stories with your hands painting a vivid picture of your adventures,

telling me of your important friends and expensive taste.

the once cerulean glimmer is now somber.

you've died haven't you?

the certain look of death at the hands of someone else.

a part of me is envious, I was never important enough to hurt you.

I wonder what she was like sometimes, did she resemble me at all?

what did it feel like the moment your heart stopped?

do you remember the first gasp of air after you were killed?

the first breath as a new person, a broken human never to be repaired.

did you scream for her or GOD?

I wish I could cause you such pain.

I imagine myself standing over your helpless body as you scream with no sound.

i'd smile knowing in that moment I actually meant something to you.
