Sharbaniranjan Kundu Poems

When our mother's sister came to town
we were so happy that our mother's sister
would be close by at hand.
Having grown in this distant place
...

When you are around me
I know you never forget your first kiss.
You try to gauge from time to time
at occasions opportune
...

Taslima, you are going beyond.
I admired you, one so bold.
The talk about male dominated society made me linient.
I was never happy with those who guarded religion
...

For such a long time I was running a temperature.
Just a little.
It was not exactly a malaise,
not an infection of some sort,
...

I was brought up in pure faith
like the truth of the pole star.
So innocent, I doubted nobody.
I didn't know whatever I was taught
...

I was in the portico.
She passed the road by.
A perfect lass.
Mid height,
...

I have had a tough life so far.
I can not imagine I shall have an easier ever.
The time has passed.
The momentous moments will never come by again.
...

My beloved is not an overnight dream.
It grew bit by bit
as my body and mind took shape
for the persoonhood I was destined to be
...

The world view was clean
like the September sky
and satisfaction was brimming
like the full Bengal lakes and rivers
...

When do they try to look their best?
To draw others towards them?
To show their superiority?
To have a winning stake
...

A person can not be more wretched
than when he is torn apart between two persons
and the persons are the mother and the wife.
Mother delivers and nurtures your father's progeny.
...

He was a brilliant man.
Ambition made him marry into a family
he thought he deserved.
But alas alliances should never me made like that.
...

A woman should await a just man to love her.
A man give love to a worthy; -
not just a body beauty
but the beauty of the mind too.
...

They say our origin is Big bang.
Ahhhh! It is just one reference.
For our universe.
Big bang is some initial value, i=0.
...

For a few years now,
breathless I reach the spot
to catch my chartered bus to office.
...

Nothing goes waste in this world.
Not a word spoken,
not an action done.
...

I am actually not me.
I am my father,
I am my mother,
I am my sisters,
...

Sometimes I wonder
how does a man really pull on in life?
Such innumerable contradictions,
so much conflict in every sphere of life -
...

How listless I feel
when you ignore me.
As if my life has come to naught
after years of waiting
...

The Dust Of Relationship

When our mother's sister came to town
we were so happy that our mother's sister
would be close by at hand.
Having grown in this distant place
away from where most relatives lived,
insequirities of cloistered life saw hope
in our aunt's coming to town.
We never imagined that our mother and aunt
being siblings could have deep rooted rivalries
of affection and qualities.
Preoccupation with families and distance
had probably put the dust below the carpet.
When the carpet is being cleaned
the families are getting choked
with the dust of their relationship.
