A portal closes then you see
another one has opened wide.
Is this an opportunity
you have brief moments to decide.
If you go through this open door
your life will change forever more
If you do not you may regret
you lacked the courage to step through
One thing for sure you won’t forget
the chance which fate had offered you.
A golden opportunity
which you declined reluctantly.
You longed to go but chose to stay
You knew that you were needed here.
you knew you could not walk away
From everything which you held dear
A wise decision to remain
that question echoes in your brain.
When you decided not to go
through that portal and explore.
The truth is that you’ll never know
what lay beyond that open door.
But still you wonder constantly
what you’d have done if you were free.
There are very few poems I would equate with the quality of one of my favorites, Robert Frost. I would put this one of yours up against 'The Road Not Taken' any day.
There you go, getting inside my head again. Bright new twist on the old 'opportunity knocks' saw. Liked it.
A very 'acceptance of the inevitable' kind of poem. I liked it very much, good repeat lines and rhyming. Good flow too. Love and hugs Ernestine XXX
Another very well written poem Ivor! ! ! Keep them coming! (a10) ! ! Thad
This poem has not been translated into any other language yet.
I would like to translate this poem
Forks in the road, We all have them, It's amazing the choices that some will take and other's wouldn't dream of attempting it. Good write.
