Back Where I Belong Poem by Lily Espinosa

Back Where I Belong

Let me look into your blinding blue eyes babe
And feel myself melt away,
Harsh realities
Can wait for another day.
Let me feel that inviting, absorbing warmth
That surrounded me so completely
As I watch lazily the hazy clouds roll by.

Except now I know that some things have changed,
Cynicisms not being the intended style-
All anguish aside,
I’m back where I belong.

Perhaps I should be bitter, envious, conceited or warped?
But I think I’d rather sit here
And be your shoulder to cry on,
And all the other clichés
Times perverseness has brought along.

You see hun,
I thought you’d completely undone
And let the attention go to your head,
But clearly, I was wrong.
I let your love get the better of me
And forgot my place and worth…

You’re the only one who loves me so,
I’ve realised this once again.
With my arrogance gone, all pompous proud-ness lost
I’m back where I belong,
Doing as I should.
Here for you, here for them.
Complete again as I remember that you love me,
Not to be fooled with, or pushed to the limit.
Everything you give me- the big things and little ones too
Will never go unappreciated, undeserved, unfelt.
My happiness will come naturally,
As I watch your smile reform once again.
