God Rest His Soul Poem by Nathan Vigil

God Rest His Soul

God is great
Coca-cola is good
And people are crazy.
The man we praise
This night sat
By and watched
Me mow his lawn.
Praise to the man
Who sits watching
Me live my life.
God is great
Coca-cola is good
And people are crazy.
This morning
We sit among
The tombs and graves
We sing praise to this
Man of fun in the sun.
He all ways had
A smile to give
And a word of good
To the wise.
There were many
Lessons of Spanish
In the dinnin’ room
O’er a can of Coca-cola.
I can hear those taps
Of words from my moth
“There is no fear at dawn.”
I recall that poem
I recall that day
The day of grief.
Here comes the tears
The fire in my heart
Grows with each step-
But tears fall like
Ash from the volcanoes.
God is great
Coca-cola is good
And people are crazy.
As he praises us
This night we pray
For his soul.
When I smell
Those cigarettes’ smoke
I remember
Sitting on the front porch swing
Talking about: school, girls,
Days of old
Old lovers;
Now I sit by myself
Tears falling into my lap,
As I praise
His soul
God Rest His Soul.
