Leaving On A Jet Plane Poem by Michael Pruchnicki

Leaving On A Jet Plane

Rating: 0.5

Just relax and enjoy the ride.
my sergeant said,
before you know it,
we'll both be dead!

For once he was right,
my mother got the telegram
just days after I stepped on the mine
right outside the wire!

A new guy in the platoon
I was gone before the new moon
I hope she got my Purple Heart
in time for my birthday
