Left To My Own Devices Poem by Isak Boyd

Left To My Own Devices

Slipping under a concrete slab
Again
Unless you're heard and think to respond
It's left unresolved and cracking above our crust
Take the pearl and silver necklace
you so delicately placed on my neck
This bare skin will take me home
Take me further past our squalid bond
Yet left to my own devices I crumble
That necklace and all it represents
held my bones in place
Held my tepid sensibility under a radiant light
But
once it's gone, it vanishes
At least that's how you make it seem
Pearls and Silver gone back to their creator?
And I'm left standing in a quicksand of regret
Gone into the earth from which I came.
