If I stand on the beach
I can see everything
Looking down
Washed up at my feet
All that the world has broken
Small, fractured, lifeless
Further out
The rolling powerful vastness
That is the universe
On display, endless
Up above
Capricious fate
Wind, sun, clouds
Looming, faceless
Then I see the fragile boats and wonder
At the courage and hope of man
