Seattle Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Seattle

Seattle

I was with the two chiefs
Seattle and Big Bear.

To me they were the same,
I saw them in mirror,
Showing me, me, myself.

Both spoke, I listened:
"Manito is wisdom,
Love of life, giving care."

Came to us new guests,
Spirits that wandered.

"As long Moon and Sun
Hang above, in sky,
And trees fill forests
Or grow in terrains,
Man breathes and breeds,
We remain and shall be
The soul of Prairies,
All the way to arctic…"

They said and I flew,
Eagle-like,
High and high to stars.

I soared and became dot
In Natives' hearts and minds.

Must and will celebrate
To have had such honour.

My masters, siblings,
Thank you
For being my teachers.

Please be my mentors
To lead me, forever.

I must meet Manito…
