Shelter From The Storm Poem by Mary Champion

Shelter From The Storm

Secure within these impregnable walls
we exult in the raging storm without.
The echo of life-force in death mode
resonates with our primeval darkness,
but we know that it cannot defeat us now -
our victory won through understanding.
The energy of Kali is awesome,
dealing out life and death without purpose.
We take vicarious pleasure in this
the source of our very existence.
We are a part of the endlessness of life
but we alone can retain our life's form.
We are mindful of the fine line we walk
between eternal life and destruction.
We mine the mindless for our sustenance
and celebrate the serendipity
that endowed us with the will to survive.
