The Pass Poem by Donna Pelan

The Pass

Rating: 5.0

I decided to get some exercize
And headed off for the YMCA
I`d renewed my membership last week
So I should be able to pick up my pass today

A pretty young lady at the desk
Said, you just go ahead and swim
When you come out I`ll have your card
ready for you then
You`ve had your picture taken already
So you won`t have to do that again

I looked at her with a blank look on my face
I could not remember ever having my picture taken
She said, it`s here on file
So you must be mistaken

I said, do you think it`s possible
They sneaked in the dressing room
And snapped a picture of this old bod
With none of my clothes on

She wasn`t sure just what to say
And hesitated for awhile
When she realized I was only kidding
She responded with a smile

I finished my swim and headed out
Thinking my pass should be ready by now
Sure enough, there it was
With just my head and nothing below

She smiled at me as I passed her desk
And realized that its not just a rumor
That age may slow us down a bit
But we retain our sense of humor
