Vaccination Poem by DR KUSUMITA MUKHERJEE

Vaccination

I cannot bear to see my darling's face shinning with tears
Yet I am confused.
Should I let her be defeated?
For the claim she has laid is void.
The plaything belongs to another
It is not mine to give
It belongs to another woman's child.

I falter.
I cannot order about another's daughter
For I fear her mother could be anywhere.
Why get into trouble on account of a child's plaything?

Solution-1
I finally bring myself to bully the child to get the plaything for my daughter.
Solution-2
I tell my daughter it is wrong to ask for what is not ours.
Solution-3
I lie to my own flesh and blood.
The plaything is not worth your attention.
Do not deem the child to be your friend for she does not share.
It is best you restrict your demands to me.
The Big Bad world is not as accommodating as I am.

I choose the third option.
Dishonest?
Ah yes!
But isn't it the Way of the World?
Sooner or later she would discover it on her own.
For now I inject it into her little white soul.
