there is splendour in her appearance

Written big on a rusted board
the words yell in your head
when you read them:

The big removal lorry has been packed,
the nine children are on the back of the pickup-truck
and are going with grandpa and grandma to the farm,
the two-wheel track to the gate is overgrown,

In the dew-fresh morning
the sun rises over the broken yesterdays
to bring a new tomorrow,

I fold the leaves open
that still does cover me,
push through the layer of ground
where I have been comfortable.
