‘Twas The Diet Before Christmas
And all through the ‘hood
Were echoes within me
That I should be good

He waits by the door
Each time I’m away
And then wants to hear
About my day

He mowed the lawn and put the grass in gunny sacks
Before piling Jami, Marykay and Greta into the 1962 beige Ford Galaxy
And heading out east for our weekly ritual of feeding horses
As they gratefully sniffed our hands and neighed in delight

Beating heart slows to a crawl
As then I fly away, gently, freely in a ball

It was velvet and delicious
And I ache to this day
Remembering the torrent
Of emotions during our first kiss

I thought that you were smitten
And wanting to know more
To get inside my caring heart
And all we could explore
...

If we were to dive in the ocean
Swim beneath the coral reefs
Descend beneath anywhere ever visited
And find that, defying all science, we could breathe freely
...

'Twas weeks before summer
And all through this site
They frantically shopped
For the one who was right
...

The building blocks laid of each memory we keep
Will color Our Rainbow where clouds never weep
And though you may leave, you’re truly not gone
Because in our hearts thoughts of love carry on
...

There’s no placating the angry
It’s a lose-lose proposition
And bitterness will find a way
To rip you to your core
