Online Dating Poem by Holly Jamestone

Online Dating

'Twas weeks before summer
And all through this site
They frantically shopped
For the one who was right

Some wanted dreamgirls
While others sought mates
Still others just hoped to find
Casual dates

Their lists they were long
Their wants overflowing
While commonsense life
Gave a wink as if knowing

That once you’re at peace
Within your own skin
You’ll then find your way
For new love to begin

No holiday, food display
Special event
Will magically bring love
Until you're content

Then out on the lawn
Will be long, lush green grass
As snowflakes are gone and
The cold comes to pass

When pretense and long lists
Are long put away
The mind’s lucid thoughts
Are those which will stay

No gifts to return
As in mates who were wrong
Just tulips and robins
Engaged in sweet song
