Ojedokun Olajide Poems

Hear my cry,
My cry,
The cry of a poet
The unseen instinct of my inner self
...

Through tempest and tribulation
Through trials and temptation
My song still and still shall be
Praise the Lord, Praise the Lord
...

Still asleep in beautiful repose
A knock I heard on my door
Guess the intruder was to the door very close
Cos at my inquiry, his voice, though pale became as bold as ore
...

Coming now of age
And growing in a form so strange

The beautiless girl next door
...

Tempt me no further young damsel
Body they say is no wood
Neither is sex to me food
And abstinence they say is very good
...

I have dined with the ‘evil
Not with a big spoon but a small one
I dined with him
No one being cheated, no one consuming less
...

I went onto the street for a walk
Both young and old I see as they hawk
As I observed within me, I could feel their pain
And I wonder why our leaders only promise in vain
...

I knew of a boy and a pupil he was
Who sat in the class while the teacher taught
And arithmetic it was that the teacher taught
So after teaching, the teacher asked if it was understood
...

He said my mom was old fashioned,
Never knew he was only being driven by his lustful passion,
Told me sex makes a relationship absolute and real,
Never knew he was going for the kill.
...

I still uneasily and unceasingly wonder
Why most females, beautiful and un-beautiful commit blunder
Whenever in the kitchen (or wherever) they cook
Not even after they might have visited the recipe book.
...

I once loved a lovely girl, Priscilla
She's so beautiful, she looks like a queen
She hates to lose, always want to win.
When she loses, she mourns like Susanna
...

They, captive held me amidst struggling
My apparel, they tore at ravishly
From my top down to my stocking
With evil eyes groping at my nudity, searchingly
...

They, captive held me amidst struggling
ravishly at my apparel they tore
from my top down to my stocking
their evil eyes groping at my nudity, they swore

A Cry In The Wilderness

Hear my cry,
My cry,
The cry of a poet
The unseen instinct of my inner self
Brought about by the propelling force of mixed emotions
Hear my cry

My cry goes to the streets,
The highways and freeways speaking for that child
Being abused by circumstance
Hawking their lives down the drain
Hear my cry

My cry, a hope for the graduates
Who after sailing through with the boat of perseverance
Wander helplessly around
With document-filled brown bags
Yet with the same stories of yesterday to tell
Hear my cry

My cry tramps to the leaders
Who prostrating, pledge and promise
But forget all after being sworn in
Leaving the poor masses to their fate
Hear my cry

My cry goes to the prostitutes
Who for a mess of porridge
Sell off their precious beings
To the shameless buyers
Hear my cry

My cry comes from the endless pit
Comes from the aborted children
Piercing through the hearts of their wicked mothers
Who out of shame, perhaps,
Ignorance, wash out the leaders-to-be
Hear my cry

My cry is the voice of that woman
Whose husband molests and beats
The agony of the mother
Driven out of her matrimonial home
Hear my cry

My cry, a voice of all
A voice of the good,
The bad,
And the ugly
Hear my cry

My cry, unto the females
Who for marks and promotions
Lay flat on their backs
To be trodden upon like horses
By graceless bosses
Hear my cry

My cry, from the cadavers
Cadavers with ‘consecrated' bones
Hermetically sealed in death
Seeking for revenge
On their early-grave-senders
Hear my cry

My cry is that lady
Who ties the knot today
And tomorrow, is out on the streets
For no just reason
Than a closed womb
Hear my cry

My cry from generations to come
Sweeps through this world
Warning and advising
Seeking for a change
A change for better days
Hear my cry

Listen to my prostrate cry,
O pedestrians and motorists
And let me know,
Let me know why
Why the good ones croak* early
And the evil ones, they age?

(* a slang meaning to die)
