090. Are You Aware Of What Poem by Jaden Knight

090. Are You Aware Of What

Are you aware of what
you tried to do to me
near two years ago
I can remember it all to the hour

Remember April 26th 2003
must have been about 8: 45pm
the day you said
that you didn’t want to be friends any more
the day you tried to cast me aside

You told me it was my fault
that I made you unhappy
that I gave you no choice
and that I made the decision for you

Did you ever use your eyes
and think about how I felt
when you dragged your misery
into my days every week
when you moaned if I forgot
to call you every day
yet you never rang me

How can it be my fault
if you told me to go
that I could not help you enough
what happened was not my fault but yours
but in reality I no longer care

In some ways I’m glad you’ve gone
before you dragged me down
into your morbid depression
so if I see you in the street
I may thank you for what you did
and I don’t care what you think of me
but I still think that you need to grow up

Sounds like a tough situation to be in. Someone(BronzeGoddess on YouTube to be exact) once said that you cant rely on others to make you happy, in marriage or anything else, that's your own responsibility. Also I can Imagine it becomes nearly impossible to try to help someone if they insist on blaming you for their unhappiness.

WOW. why didn't you just hand her a gun and help her hold it to her head? ! [sorry; i got carried away] tell me you made this up, please! it reminds me a little bit of my first wife. she has had trouble with depression (up and down) for years, starting when her first husband left her, or before that, perhaps. a very forceful poem. it is easy to blame, but difficult to be forgiving and compassionate. well, yeah, that IS a generalization. and growing up can be complicated when one is 'morbidly depressed week after week after week' as you portray the character in this poem. thanks for sharing this poem. bri :)
