~72~ Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

~72~

Approaching in my view,
Is the age of 72.
With this to acknowledge,
Experiences had to have lived through.
Knowing to confess I am blessed.

Approaching 72 and reviewing,
With a gratefulness to express.
My best lesson was to learn,
Having patience is a test.
And up to the task to achieve this,
Is not as easy to receive.
Nor simplistic for one to get.

Stepping over obstacles,
Becomes more of a climb at times.
To find more not less,
A negativity can create one to stress.
With fears to face,
Daring one to be chased.
But one who has aged,
Depends on faith to keep and embrace.

And...
To love and let love go?
Is a rollercoaster ride I rode.
With emotions seated and strapped to them.
To let the tears flow.
And accept the facts of life.
Appreciating them as I grew to grow older.

Approaching in my view is ~72~.
With a doing to confess,
This to achieve is a blessing.
And learning to be patient,
Has been the best test yet.
To discover peace of mind and happiness,
Can not be purchased to receive.
Or believe this can be achieved,
Without disappointments, regrets...
Or mistakes to make to then ignore.
Is a fantasy to delude.
Since life to live it explored,
Will have its ups and downs.
Until one grows with an aging to know,
Time to get and be blessed with it...
Is limited.
And proves this,
For those too old.
Who have chosen their time to fool around.
