sleep peaceful sleep
come steal over me now
numb not just my limbs
but mind and heart sublime
quieten those beats
that thunder to forbidden rhythms
mask and hide each thought
that germinates in mind
and rises unbidden
so come, sleep peaceful sleep
steal over me now
numb not just my limbs
but mind and heart sublime
dust to dust returneth
truly was not spoken of the soul
for it is destined to forever shine forth...
but all i possess today
all that is mine
is but a body supine
what use a walking corpse
desecrating lands divine?
so come, sleep peaceful sleep
come steal over me now
numb not just my limbs
but mind and heart sublime
heaven is promised to mortals,
stoically bearing torture and pain
for an untold lifetime
who turn the other cheek,
make another smile
stop only to wipe a tear
and gift another hope and cheer
peace a tormented one
may perhaps one day finally find
so come sleep peaceful sleep
make haste and steal over me now
numb not just my limbs
but mind and heart sublime
oh the sweet sleep...how it ditches during one's emotional trauma. makes me recollect few sleepless nights. but they are a treasure i should say
the poem is beautiful and lucid but one need not be that pessimistic about life. that sleep...let it come one day at its leisure and will…till that time let us be awakened and see things around with good involvement but with less attachment. so cheer up, virginia! i give you ten...
