A Beggar Is Not A Lover Poem by Me.S Dey

A Beggar Is Not A Lover

I went there with a begging bowl;
Begging for love to someone beautiful.
She had a golden heart and was so kind;
Loved me for the moment and I felt like flying high.
She cared for me and gave me whatever she could.
Never had I known that it was not the only truth.
Never could I know that she already had
Someone as her dearest and she loved him immense.
But never had she left me feel deprived.
Never had she shown any disrespect for a while.
She treated this beggar like a lover.
And my bowl was full with love from her.
Once I told her that I loved her too much.
And she once referred me as her dearest one.
Never had I known that the dearest wasn’t me always.
Never had I known she loved too much someone else.
But a beggar in me took it for granted,
And wrote verses to express his love for his nearest.
She too did come out with lovely verses few;
But those were all keeping someone else in view.
I was far from truth to believe or even guessing
That it may not be me whom she was referring.
It was too late when I realized for ever
A beggar is always a beggar and never a lover.
But this beggar is still around with his bowl and roaming
Coz he can’t just live without the love he found, begging.
