A Broken-Heart Is Indeed My Only Friend. Poem by Brett White

A Broken-Heart Is Indeed My Only Friend.

Rating: 5.0

Our memories either help or hurt us,
Very seldom does their influence fade.
But we must, our own hearts and visions trust,
And cling not to any debt that's unpaid.
I wish you'd never left, but now you're gone,
Your smile like smoke that's risen to the clouds.
And while every dark night gives way to dawn,
The moon no longer smiles, she only frowns.
Without your Grace, I have not the smoothness,
Required to fake a solitaire forced smile,
Or for another, True Love to express.
To gain one hug, I'd walk through Hell a mile -
Think nothing of it, for Eternity.
Just me and Cerberus all alone,
The Flames of Loss Blazing infernally,
Upon a sapling that's crookedly grown.
But gnarled roots resist Death until the End,
For their foundation is indeed enduring,
Like for you, m'amour and dear friend.
But dead branches blaze with Life during Spring,
And with them we are all forced to grow.
Your absence only did sweet heart-ache bring,
And poetry that never ceases to flow.
Years passed by are forever sealed in Time,
A prison cell locked I cannot open,
But in quiet reflection, I often find,
A broken-heart is indeed my only friend.
