A Crows Barracker Poem by Francis Duggan

A Crows Barracker

When the AdelaideA F L Football Club loses the disappointment on his face shows
For he is a fan of the footballing Crows
But when they do win on his face a big smile
Perhaps this makes up for his disappointments and makes his barracking worthhis while

A man born and raised and living in south west Victoria in his local pub
He is the only one who barracks for the Adelaide Football Club
A man of his own mind of him one can say
So few of his sort in the Human World of today

I once asked him why he barracks for Adelaide and to this his reply
Since you asked me this question thee is only one reason why
They play in Australia' indigenous people's colours the first people of this Southern Land
Why I barrack for them do you now understand

He added though I am not of indigenous ancestry I admire them as a race
And in Australia they should command the highest place
And with the footballing Crows of Adelaide a common bond I does share
Since the true colours of Australia they proudly does wear

Tribalism in barracking in football it is not his thing
Of the praises of a non Victoria A FL Club he only does sing
He often drives his car to Adelaide and Melbourne to watch the Crows play
From Warrnambool in south west Victoria a long journey either way.
