A Fondness For Elephants - Poem by Laura Milner

A fondness for elephants
You ask me to forget.
I wait for it to happen,
but it has not. Not yet.

Will I forever have to be deceptive?
Forever impersonate joy?
My heart is a human organ
My heart is not a toy.
