A Friendship Lost Poem by Anu Joshy

A Friendship Lost

Rating: 4.3

He has drowned in the unfathomed depths of this soul,
The face once etched in this heart,
covered now with the dust of time.
The warmth of a friendship
to last for aeons,
Had kept me safe from the clutches of
sugar coated words and smiles,
hollow relationships.
The words of a truthful heart,
had mended the ways I took,
Lending life a new light.

An era has passed,
erasing beautiful moments and memories,
Where did I lose you, my friend?

To which monument did you fade into?
Which distant dream did drown us,
forcing us to float away from each other,
far apart to alien banks.
Our promises of impossible meetings
lie shattered, like this heart of glass,
Alas! With elapse in time,
The warmth that we once shared is lost.

Sailing from mistake to mistake,
to a life now in shambles,
Without the strength of our friendship
by my side, I crawl away from defeats in vain,
Just to be dragged back,
To play this losing game, to fail again.
Oh my friend! Where did I lose you?

I have dried my eyes searching
for you, in every turn of life,
No tears are now spared for futile grievances.
Like a distant star that shimmers
in the dark vagueness of this sky,
Throwing its beams that fall to my heart,
You still shine on, deep inside my depths.

As my hands reach out for yours,
I feel the beat of your throbbing heart,
Far away, somewhere in your own agony,
The curse of negligence had left
two souls groping in darkness…………
My friend,
Where did I lose you? ? ? …
