A Haldane King Poem by Kimberly Lindsey

A Haldane King

We travel back in time,
To a place not of earth.
I love this line,
From a favorite trilogy.
Camber of Culdi,
Advisor to the King.
Evaine his daughter and scholar and mother of Tieg,
Married to Rhys the healer, who is adept at his craft.
Joram the Michaeline Knight, warrior and Priest,
Cathan the Kings’ favorite, whose blood was let.
McRory blood runs true and are valued by all.
Each in their own right, a force not to be taken light.
King maker, scholars, and gifted by far.
Scrying, and spelling,
Beget justice for all.
Khelson and Morgan,
Duncan and Dugal too,
Brion and Jehanna,
Allister and Jebedia.
Deryni by birth,
Human not.
Gifted by God,
Cursed by the church.
The story and plot line,
Are fantastic and yet,
I want them to win,
None of their blood to let.
The Haldane is awesome,
He slew the Marluk,
Charissa, the King Brion
With help from Merasha.
And then Khelson slew Charissa,
In the circle proper.
Khelson received his birthright,
That day, AND his crown.
Every knee yielded, to the ground.
To a man, they paid him homage,
Knowing they had been had,
By a sixteen year old King…. Just a lad.
