A Heartbeat Ago Poem by DAVID TERRY

A Heartbeat Ago

A heartbeat ago
We were letting go
On a night soft and low
We simply walked away
Refusing to stay
Or even to say
Why my heart was aglow
When I wouldn’t even show
How you made it just so
For love never to stray
But would only convey
That I always would pray
For your return and not slow
Because I want you to know
That this feeling will grow
In love’s own special way
Without hurt or delay
Here and now, here today

And forever
