A Hurricane Poem by Lily Ives

A Hurricane

Rating: 5.0

You brought with you the bountiful summer harvest,
warmth and joy when you arrived at the cafe near the shore,
looking adorable in your shorts
We marvelled at the sunset's glow in the cold and
using our secret code, shattered the ice crystals
that blocked the road between our souls
Your kiss was gentle and sweet as it freely flowed
through my being and silently severed my limbs,
and I collapsed into your hold as you stood tall
Your hands brushed against my skin with deliberate
and gentle strokes, ushering the flow of electric
tendrils throughout my form
Your words inspired me to be bold
and to dare to expose my innermost thoughts
Your blue eyes ignited within me fervour
and lead me to roam into the unknown
Your dashing presence unravelled my delicate spirit
into public view like a flowering rose,
but, when you left,
it didn't gently rain in my soul,
nor did it pitter-patter outside my home;
it rumbled and poured in my tissues and bones!
A hurricane burst forth from the centre of my dome,
as it lashed and tugged at the soft fibres holding me whole
and rattled the structure of my ruby stone;
Your sudden departure stirred within me the perfect storm!
I faced the mirror on my bathroom wall
and saw your name caught below my eyelashes
in a row of glistening teardrops
Your memory dripped down my cheeks onto the floor
and pooled beneath my robe
In the shimmer of my tears beneath my feet,
sinister sirens lulled me to sleep to feed on my grief
And in the echo of their poisonous song,
I'll dream of you until the sun breaks me open
and ushers in a new dawn.
