A Meager Cent Poem by Theresa Ann Moore

A Meager Cent

There was a time when it was shiny and new
Lincoln's copper appearance had a broad range
He had humble beginnings…he represented pride
Only to become a nuisance in a pocket full of change

Now with inflation and the rise of the metal's cost
The monetary value it represents had been exceeded
There are those who say its existence is outdated
Thoughts are it is eccentric and no longer needed

A dull scuffed penny is lying on the sidewalk
Hardly noticed…an intentionally ignored cent
No effort to retrieve…stepped on and over
Too unworthy to be borrowed, loaned or spent

How true! Values are also eroding just like the penny. As usual very descriptive and with meaning...Wayne
