A Moment Too Long Poem by Claire Jones

A Moment Too Long

Rating: 5.0

How are you baby?
I'm fine how are you?
Some of your last words.

Don't work too late
Its getting dark out there now
Where are you?

I'm pulled up on the side of the road
I'll be done soon.
You excited? Its almost your birthday?

Yep its gonna be great
Can't wait to go out.
You coming round tomorrow?

Yeah not working late tomorrow
Just gotta finish this field.
Then I'm all yours.

Ok see you tomorrow then
I love you
I love you too......Bye!

Ironic isn't it?
Thats the last conversation we ever had
In no more than 2 hours you were dead.

Taken away from me
After all that.
We were just getting there.

Tried to hang on
But the pain was too much
You exhaled and slipped through my fingers.

They said you were dead
And all I saw was darkness
Thats the one moment I'll never forget.

I knew you were never coming back
Things would never be the same
You died that day and took my smile with you.

This is an absolute shocker. If this is what you were writing about earlier, then I am truly sorry for your loss. No words from strangers are of any use in this sort of situation. Dare I add that once again, your work is poetic and very well presented. jim
