A Mothers' Letter Poem by Jodie Mayhew

A Mothers' Letter

This letter hopes to find you well
As Well as that may be
Surrounded by the loneliness
From War Torn Misery.
I Think of you each day and I
just can't imagine how
You can escape the Noise from
all those loud and deafening sounds.
I know that it is hard for you
And that you Must stay Strong
For if you let it get to you
You could not carry on.
I Wonder if you sleep at Night
Upon your Canvas Cot
I Wonder if your prayers are 'Oh God.
Please Make those Bombs Stop! '.
Each night I go to bed, I Pray
For You and I Pray for them
That somehow they might find a way
to let Peace Reign Again.
I don't know why they're fighting
I'm not even sure you do
But still I'm proud..
No Matter What this War has Made You Do.
And So, My Son I Send My Love
and Prayers to You Today
May God Protect
And Mercy Me Enough To Keep You Safe.
Farewell For Now. My Soldier Child
My Brave and Loyal Son.
I'll write again tomorrow.
Sincerely Yours
Love Mum.
