A New Start Poem by Rose Marie Cook

A New Start

Alone.
Hidden in the dark
In a corner
Body held close.

Voices.
All around
Growing louder
Tears racing.

Pain.
Stabbing again
Shriveling up
eyes closed tighter

You.
Walk in my room
Look for me
Find my corner.

Lights.
Flick on blinding me
Eyes adjust
Open slowly.

Force.
Hard against my body
Pulled from my ball
From my place.

Marks.
All over
Never stopping
Always showing.

Yells.
Cursing in my face
Breath stings my eyes
Hurt my ears.

Stuff.
Flies at me
Pounds my body
Knocks me down.

Bed.
My soft cushion
Protective for now
Stops the ache.

Day.
Relief from you
Friends to talk to
Act like I'm fine.

Night.
Repeats over again
Bruises deepen
Breath fades.

Death.
My final escape
The only great place
You sent me by mistake.

Life.
Starting over
A new life
My time to shine.
