A Song For You Poem by Olufunke Ayeni

A Song For You

I have a love for you
that cannot show face in the light
It has to wait till the skies are dark
and the curtains drawn

To some it may be scandalous to be with you
To others it's plain suicidal

A cat and dog cannot mingle
simple explanation
cat and dog cannot mingle

But like a mutating plant,
our love has learned to thrive
without sunlight

sucking in the light from halogen lamps
and scented candles

it would grow, it would grow thorns too
to defend against plucking and uprooting.

I LOVE YOU SO
and I always pray that is enough

i dont see it as a poem written out of patriotism or for ones country! ! ! ...i see it in red... in flesh and blood and the trappings of love be it from scented candles or in the depth of drawn curtains in halogen lamps....even if there is a longing for it to be bright as sun light for all to see. i liked the lines for the contextual richness...its an ardent desire not to loose a cherished loved persona...even through it is not out in the open and under wraps... liked
