A Song Of The Sea

Rating: 5.0

Translated from Dutch into English by the author (een lied van de zee) without rhime ofcourse...

a song of the sea

I

I miss the sea
she who gives space
I will go with her instantly
cause had a good time there

always a warm place
my heart cannot live without the sea
there, there is no polluting filth
yet I gave here that many times

the easy going swell
is beautiful to watch
then, behind the horizon the disappearing
mighty powers are building there

the quiet and stateliness are overwhelming
a greatness of nature
and I stand there silent
alone in the raw wind

take me with you on your waves!
let me go to far places!
there she has covered me,
under her enchanting words!

“come, follow me without remorse
I promise you order and calmness
know that the long road leads
to an exotic uninhabited coast

enjoy the free birds on your journey
take the sun and the moon as they come
then I’ll award you the ultimate prize:
the country where you can dream in peace! ”

II

“having arrived here at mid sea
everything out of sight, except the infinite
to here I am taking you
because here you are happier

don’t look to the nothing surrounding you
see the white heads of the storm
that site I am borrowing you
that will be your new standard

the sun rises and perishes
you wake up and sleep
I know you are becoming healthier
here with the brine under your chin

what is more beautiful than endlessness?
will you trade your soul for that?
but don’t become angry afterwards!
when it is just me hearing the sirene!

the promised land lies there
I know how you have longed for it
my guidance is done
while I hear the bell hanging

it didn’t chime for you
it chimed for your shadow
because what that was wanting to tell me
is unbecoming and rough

see to it that I will part you
only then can it be fulfilled
he giveth that your shadow lies still
and that you can sleep in the starry night

my fingers wash your body
I bring coolness and healing
for it is obvious now:
of all you had another reading…!

I am free unpredictable stateliness
of water, earth and air
I am there where I spread myself
even where I can’t go and flee”

III

she sang for me
lured me
promised me
took me
while I could barely resist
the enchanting words and promises
yet
I have not yet surrendered
I am not ripe enough
has still to wait
frost belated the picking time
but because of that the harvest is more noble
a harvest at sea, as you had in mind
like fetching in seaweed
frightens me
cause what and who and where and how will you meet?
she, together with him
inspires me
frighten me
are luring me

“I promise you: you won’t notice anything, come go with me! ”
