A Stained Glass… Poem by Debdeep Mandal

A Stained Glass…

Later I did, speak out my heart,
Little did I know that it'd be ripped apart.
Carried myself, an heavy heart, a broken soul,
Dragged it along to put it down the hole.

Dark it was, down in there,
Nobody by my side, to heal and care.
I cried, I howled but nobody could listen,
Me & my loneliness, remained cocooned in my den.

The promise I had made, that no more I'd disturb you,
The vow I swore that no longer I'd see you,
All converged to burn my heart,
That never ever I could be with you.

A decade it has been, since those days,
Separated we remain, still in our ways.
Egos & misunderstandings, propped & stayed,
Or else, our love would have been, priceless as a Jade.

You claim to have felt the same, back then,
Could've held on to it, than letting it go in vain.
Situations, I know, left us no option,
But, I did hold on then & still do, with no expectation.

The days after, when we broke all ties,
Memories flashed, ending in goodbyes.
I, indeed, was broken. But made a firm choice,
Clung on to the happy memories, which we together rejoiced.

The glass has been fixed, but cracks remain,
The cracks make me wish, then vanish in vain.
The stained memories keep me alive,
More like stings, to churn honey from bee-hive.

Tears of happiness, cries of sorrow,
To live my life, your memories, I borrow.
Never can we be physically together,
Emotionally am yours, forever and ever.

I held your fingers, & ventured into the world of love,
Never thought you'd snatch it away.
The rift, perhaps, cracked too wide,
To leave me broken, maimed, in dismay.

I scarred my birthday, forever,
When I decided to speak out that day.
Wanted to gift myself with the best in the world,
But my world crumbled like a castle of clay.

With a heart full of hope, I lived my life,
Addicted am I, still to your charms.
Now that everything has fallen apart,
I peacefully want to die in your arms….
