A Wishing Dream Poem by Kim Reinagle

A Wishing Dream

I had a dream about me
Which is very rare indeed
Sitting by water so blue
Yearning for a wish to come true
A woman with piercing Grey eyes
Appeared and sat by my side
“Your wish is why I am here
You have nothing to dread or fear.”
Knowing she was wise
I closed my eyes
Allowing my heart to speak
What it promised to always keep
“I want to be able to see
What others see of me
I only find the negative
While they point out the positive
They say I am beautiful
Yet I only see plain and dreadful
I just want to be happy with me.”
Opening my eyes, tears ran down my cheek
With compassion she began to speak
“Granting your wish is easy to do
But an overnight change is not for you
If the lessons go unlearned, it will be contrite
For it takes work from you to be done right
Three things each day you must find
Qualities that make you sublime
Do not use your head, look with your heart
If you do, I will surely do my part.”
Understanding what she said
I could only nod my head
She gave me a hug and wiping the tear from my cheek
“You are Strong and Beautiful, not Fragile and Weak”
As quickly as she appeared
She disappeared
Slowly awaking from the dream in a haze
I went to the mirror to gaze
For the first time, I began to see me
