Abandonment Poem by Michelle Dragonfly

Abandonment

An innocent crime, really.
Not even considered a crime by most.
But it happens more often than any can count.
As I speak, I've been abandoned
By those I thought cared.
And it isn't just me.

You see, it is an innocent crime.
But at the same time, it is vicious.
Tearing apart young hearts.
Destroying self esteem.
Forcing us all to build walls
Separating us from anyone who might care.

We build our walls strong, so they'll stay.
We don't plan on taking them down.
So why do we?
We learn to trust again,
Get hurt again.
Why?

Is it because
Through all of our armor
We still have faith?
Faith.
That silly idea
That always let us down before.
