Aftertaste Poem by Kewayne Wadley

Aftertaste

I remember your face
Stumbling in a straight line.
Your laugh intoxicated & free
Trying to keep composure.
I gave you a glass to pour yourself in.
To protect you & keep you safe.
You stretched your arms out
Lost in claustrophobia,
The tail point of our titanic
The night we kissed
The night we fell,
You stretched yourself out
across my lips
Your skin a bitter sugar sweet.
Acrobatic & free
I remember your face
Stumbling in a straight line.
The way you tripped
The way you fell,
The way you treated my lips
Like a trampoline falling bottom first.
My tongue a tightrope balanced
Underneath your weight.
There's no way I couldn't catch you,
The only way I'd fall.
Ice melts in a hot sea of whiskey
The only way I'd fall.
You stretched your arms out
There was nothing else to drink
