All Voters - Beware Poem by Joseph T. Renaldi

All Voters - Beware

Rating: 5.0

There is something about politicians,
Surely, everyone ought to know,
Tell the people what they want to hear,
And watch the somber faces glow.

There is something about politicians,
When their rhetoric is loud and clear
Promoting their unrealistic agenda,
Creating false hopes and sometimes fear.

There is something about politicians,
Like Santa Claus leaving gifts beneath the tree,
In the joy of many diehard and gullible electors,
Certainly, they must believe everything is free.

There is something about politicians,
Taxing the rich and not the entire corps,
Promoting costly programs in a liberal spree,
Emulating the practices of Robin Hood more.

There is something about politicians,
Though charges and imputations may fail,
It is something they have learned to accept
While traversing the strenuous campaign trail.

There is something about politicians,
Their grandiloquent words overwhelm the heart,
And is displayed in every political party
Of diehard partisans many miles apart.

There is something about politicians,
Defaming an opponent is part of the game,
Easily duping the public to win an election,
Using glittering generalities is always the same.

Voters beware - before you go to the polls,
Survey the consequences before you vote.
The well being of the nation is at stake and,
Your prudent choice can alleviate a societal jolt.
