Alter Ego Poem by Kellyn, A Grau

Alter Ego

The change of smell sends my eyes roving back
I can’t quite put my finger on what it means
My hands, I use to knew them inside and out
Known the seem twisted into different beings
My eyes see changes, and understand them all

As the shattered pieces of glass fall
In the shards of today and tomorrow
Twist into the fabric of time
I see something flicker on both sides

Those eyes, I remember them
However, they seemed torn
Why does the right see something
While the left is searching for something more

Those shoes, so different in shape and shades
Yet, they both fit perfectly on my feet
Those cloths, are they for different people
No. they were both made perfectly for me

Innocence is still held in my hands
But will the dawn of tomorrow taint them
I cant tell, all I know is I fear it
But this is what I am, it’s part of me

So as I stand with hands closed tight
And look into the object of judgment
I see the dual personas staring back at me
And know that they both represent me

The savior and the lover
The protector and the compassionate
The reaper and the care giver
All create the fibers of my being

So when did my soul split
When was I seeing through two lives
I couldn’t tell you when it shifted
All I know is that it’s where I belong
