Always Have A Backup Plan Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Always Have A Backup Plan

Asking a question.
And the response is quick.
Specific.
Leaving one not to doubt.
What is heard coming out,
Of one's mouth.
Is better to know.
Than to wonder about.

"If I was left stranded on an island.
Would you send for help to rescue me? "

-I wouldn't think about it.-

This kind of response,
Certainly requires clarity.
So perhaps to ask again,
For someone to be more specific,
Is a necessity.

"You wouldn't be concerned for my safety?
You wouldn't care if I was alone.
Stranded and needed help? "

-No. Not at all.
When and what time,
Can I depend upon that to happen? -

Well...
In certain situations,
A question like this...
Maybe better to ask,
Of someone unknown.
Like a stranger.
Involving a spouse, close friend.
Or even a relative these days.
Should leave no one feeling offended.
Since the real proof,
Is in the doing.

But,
Always...
Regardless of what the situation may be.
Always remain prepared,
To have a backup plan that is effective.
Reliable and ready to put into action.
Leaving behind doubt.
Who to trust.
And nothing to argue about.

-Why would you ask me something like that?
Everyone has their 'moments'.
And we have had ours.
I would still love you.
No matter where you are.
You would be 'here'.
Finding a way to stay on my mind.-

Like I said.
Always have a backup plan.
This...
You can depend upon and trust!
