Always On The Run Poem by Paula Glynn

Always On The Run

Vicky: always on the run
But where can she go?
Where can she hide from herself?
Where can she escape from herself?
When there is nowhere to run?
When Vicky cannot escape?

Wanting to run away: understandable
Everyone wants to run away sometimes
But how do you get someone to see sense?
When they're confused within themselves?
When they carry their problems with them?
Problems that have to be faced and dealt with

Spending years going from place-to-place
Memories that Vicky wants to erase
But still searching for the perfect place
However it is Australia that's the real dream
Where the weather is hot and the police aren't on the scene
When the pace of life is peaceful and ideal

Trapped in a prison cell like trash
Treated by others like trash
Often asking people for cash
Being ever so bold and brash
Knowing being bold gets her what she wants
Knowing others she shouldn't need to haunt

Needing to wake up
Forgetting the useless makeup
Waking one day to see the light:
Others she must no longer fight
Others she must learn to respect and be calm with
Others that help she must be reasonable with

Always on the run
Life never enjoyable or fun
A nightmare life more than begun
Others laughing and having their cruel fun
This completely wrong and unfair
Their eyes just to capture Vicky and nastily stare

Vicky believing running away the answer
But she is within the iron system
A system there to protect everyone
A system designed to be fair
Perhaps now under wise guidance
Vicky never on the run again.
