Am I Not To Notice Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Am I Not To Notice

Am I not to notice.
Whenever I am asked to participate,
And go to a church service.
Less not more do I notice what takes place.
I anticipate faith worshippers.
But instead I hear to be heard,
Rumors and gossip created to serve.
Am I not to notice.

Am I not to notice.
How politics is used as a divisive tool.
Leaving people to decide,
On which side to choose.
Then argue in debate,
Over who is entitled to get better benefits.
As if administered to a congregation.
But directed are comments,
To those near the pulpit.
And where in pews they choose to sit.
Am I not to notice this.

Am I not To notice well dressed hypocrites.
More of them who express less interest.
Yet seem to be in the midst of conflicts.
They deny their meddling did not begin.
Am I not to notice them.
Those who say they faithfully pray.
And everyday perform some act of sin.
Then pretend they are holier than 'Thou'.
Almighty God.
With it done caring less who notices,
What they do with who to do religiously.
