America Now Poem by Glen Kappy

America Now

Rating: 4.0

I long for peace between the sides
but this I want to say out loud—
how low our country's sunken now
where ignorance and greed are proud.

I follow American politics in books (mainly about Donald Trump) and television. There must be a lot of greed and ignorance in your country, but has there not been in the past also? When Trump speaks, I listen.

indeed trump is only the latest manifestation of america's original sins. i've been reading a recent (copyright 2018) history of the u.s. titled " these truths" by jill lepore, professor of the subject at harvard and contributor to the new yorker magazine. i highly recommend it. it's so well written it reads like a page-turner in places. my poem " listening to genius loves company" expresses my longing for a coming-together of factions. -glen

thank you, kumarmani. don't know how closely you follow american politics (i limit my own exposure) , but our president had been fulfilling the wish list of the republican party with actions that are unfair, unfeeling, and undemocratic to enrich themselves and their corporate donors. -glen
