An Act Of Cowardice Poem by Francis Duggan

An Act Of Cowardice

Rating: 5.0

For himself such bad karma he has sown
The hooded coward who broke into her home
And left her with blackened eye and cut on throat
And stole from her a fifty dollar note.

The tearful and the sad times she's been through
Her husband died fighting in World war 2
And she raised their two daughters on her own
And nothing of the easy life she's known.

Allowing for her age of eighty five
The doctors say she's lucky to be alive
She took a few bad hits around the head
And she was found unconscious on her bed.

The one who did this deserves long term in jail
When apprehended he should not get bail
And he should be made pay for his heinous crime
And in a cold damp jail cell serve his time.

He broke into her flat by forcing in the door
And a worthless craven he is nothing more
For a few dollars to buy drugs and booze
Such vile behaviour one cannot excuse.

The justice system always seem to fail
The vulnerable, the aged and the frail
And for one more old woman in her twilight years
The trauma of bad memories and tears.
