An Autumn Night Poem by Taylor Jones

An Autumn Night

I can't do this anymore
can't sit and watch you fall
I need to leave town for awhile
you know you'll be fine alone

we walked through the forest green
while the falling sun
said goodbye
to make way for night
listening to the autumn music
and everything was right
we'd come upon an abandoned house
with boarded windows
and a path
that runs behind the caution tape
and we had half a mind to maybe

everything will come to light
but the truth sometimes hurts
most of the time

but we continued walking
past the house and I became glad
after we had passed it's glassy stare
cause I swear
I saw a face
but I didn't say anything

I didn't want to ruin
what we thought we had going
