An Ode to Paula and Derek

Far away from a foreign land
Came Margaret and Derek hand in hand
Bound together by love and hope
Always sure together they could cope
As time passed a child of love came
Paula was her name
Life was full of hope and happiness
And many many good years passed without sadness

Then came a sign, which was unkind - to remind
Life on earth is only borrowed time
A concept difficult for heart and mind
Until you are the chosen one to bare
Feelings of pain and sorrow, agony and despair

Left is a hurt heart
Sleepless nights, waking with a start
Empty arms and her not there
Her loving voice fill the air
Which only you can hear

As days, months and years pass
Your heart will begin to feel lighter
The sun will seem brighter
She will be smiling down upon you with love
Surrounded by loved ones together above
Happy that you are happy again at last
