An Ode To The Indian Spring Poem by Varghese Kuncheria

An Ode To The Indian Spring

An Ode to the Indian Spring
By Joji Varghese Kuncheria
From the Anthology Spring Songs published at Amazon.

Oh come! the Indian Spring!
Come like a mighty wind,
Bring the northeast monsoon,
Bring the dry and hot weather.

Oh come! sweet monsoon!
You are the Spring of the tropics,
Bringing the heavy showers,
Sounding like a roaring tiger.

Oh come and sweep the heat away!
Cool the land and renew our spirits,
Though overcast and melancholic,
You hold the life giving manna.

Come Spring of vibrant colours!
A period of lush flowering,
Bring Holi, the festival of spring,
In this time of festive season.

Come Spring of new beginnings!
The Navruz of the Zoroastrians,
The Baisakhi of the Hindus,
And the new year of the Baha'is,

Come Spring of historic births!
Budha and Mahavira Jayanti-
Of great souls born in Spring,
Founders of Buddhism and Jainism.

Come Spring of great sacrifices!
The Easter and Eid-ul-Azha,
Oh come and rejuvenate again!
Our spirit, soul, and the body.
