An Unexpected Betrayal Poem by Jessica Edwards

An Unexpected Betrayal

You were a brother of philosophy
Always saying how the world needs to change to be free
First in line and first aid and to support
When pain and injustice engulfed those you knew
Never satisfied with a silent voice
But where are you know the silence is deafening

But there you are standing in front of me
Until I open my eyes, who's this stranger I see
Looking through a fog for the person I knew
Wondering in my head what did I do

I believed in the things that you once said
Until I realized it was just part of your plan
Not hard to sabotage a fragile me
Since my mind was already fractured into a thousand states
It wouldn't be hard to conquer what was left of me

There you are standing in front of me
Opening your eyes who's this stranger I see
Lost in the fog inside my head
Questioning all the 'truths' you speak

I hear you say its alright
I hear you say its what's best for me
I nearly died because of what you believe

You look into my eyes as you climb on top of me
And you realize I begin to leavell
Hope was the only left and you triumphantly took that from me
I'm back down on knees desperately trying to believe

There you are standing in front of me
As I open my eyes and its a monster I see
Lost in the fog that surrounds me now
Frantically trying to find what's left of me
