And Then There Was Me Poem by Jonisha Jones

And Then There Was Me

You know how they say people can stick like glue
Well that was the case with me and you
I loved you, you loved me
There was always giggles and smiles cause we were so happy
You lived far and i understood
But miles dont matter and they never should
'Nothing else matters to them' people would say
'No rain would ever fall and the skies were never gray'
'I love you more no i love you more' they would mock us in our sleep
But i ignored them cause our love was pure and one to keep
And then the miles became longer when it came to your touch
And other couples reminded me of why i loved you so much
Our giggles became sighs and our smiles became frowns
I would ask you where you are and you would say stop tying me down
You returned up north but not to get me
Then you flew back down with 'her' and there was no room for three
Our neighbors had new things to mock
'He came for the bad girl and you got dropped'
I flew down south to get the revenge that was mine
And i knew not to leave without my .39
I saw her reflection rejoicing over a ring that was for me
I shot her in the head and only your reflection was left for me to see
I came forward so my shadow was next to be seen
You got on you knees and cried like a broken machine
I covered my ears so my heart wouldn't hear
And i blackened my soul so guilt would not be left to fear
I said good-bye and gave you a psalm to pray
Then i closed my eyes and blew your life away
I swore i would shoot the next reflection i see
I turned to a mirror AND THEN THERE WAS ME
