Angels Poem by Dante Rose

Angels

I’m losing sight of your bloodshot eyes,
Through the sheets of rain
Midnight chimes ring through the air,
As I let go of your hand again
Through the purgatory my scorched voice chokes goodbye.
The streets are hungry,
My lungs are burned and weak
Bridges broken in my mind,
Have kept me from any sleep
Ezra Pound is in my head
My final speech won’t ever be read.

Midnight’s hole is opening, a doorway in the night
My feet are blue from frost, my eyes are sore from sunlight
A fading voice is whispering, God will always love you
But not as much as I will always love you
Emptiness
The cancer of emptiness

You still beg that it is not too late
You will love me even at heaven’s gate
But I have fallen long ago
Angels cannot hear me now
My prayers would die, had they ever been born
Angels will not hear me now

Goodbye
My darling, goodbye
Your tears will soon be memories
On the misty shores of a shining sea
Goodbye, I stand ‘neath the western skies
We were angels crying in a world we found
In tears we swam whilst the stars were all torn down
